About Optimist Under Siege
An Optimist Under Siege? Who am I and why such a title?
For readers visiting for the first time, welcome to the blog of someone who clings to an optimistic outlook despite the massive pressure of events and people around her (hence “under siege”). Why not appreciate and be happy about the fact that the police crossing guard held the traffic one extra second just for you, or that someone carried your package upstairs at work saving you the trip? No, it’s not a big deal (some of you non-optimists might argue). Well, you’re right, but if I can be happy about all the silly little things…why not be? This is where I acquired the name Optimist Under Siege.
More generally, I am a 27 year old woman who has been married for one year now. I am still happily (oh, there’s that optimism again!) in that married-but-no-kids stage. My husband and I have diverse interests. As the name of my blog may imply (somewhat blatantly), my husband enjoys such things as video/computer games, science fiction/fantasy books, anime, role-playing games (table top and live action), and strategy board games like Risk. Not being stereotypically one-sided, he also likes such things as going out for nice dinners, having a beer or cocktail in a bar with friends, traveling, and backpacking.
I, not being a dork but definitely a nerd (see my blog for the difference between these terms), will admit that occasionally I may possibly maybe enjoy, just a little bit, some of the same dorky activities. I might, sometimes, play a video game. I might even be dragged (unwillingly mind you! I swear!) into a role-playing game similar to Dungeons and Dragons where I get to be a sorceress who uses magic! Not that I like it, certainly not. Besides the not-so-shared dorky interests between my husband and I, I am also a fan of chick flicks, drama (in movies and on tv…particularly Law and Order), and reading. I like learning, languages in particular, and speak fluent French (and a little bit of Spanish). When it comes to board games, I’m more inclined to play a word-based game like Taboo or Boggle. I like hanging out with friends (hey, who doesn’t?!), traveling, and going out dancing. And, in fact, there are many things I have yet to mention which I might list among my hobbies, but you’ll just have to keep reading my blog to find out (mwah ha ha!).
Anyway, thanks for visiting! You’re welcome anytime! Cheers!
